Hello, Friend!

How have you been?  I hope your summer went well!  I didn't get to see a lot of it because I've been inside working on Soul Saga, but it sure looked nice through the cracks in my curtain!

Beta v7.2 Live!

There is an updated beta version in your Humble bundle download page (if you have access to the beta)!  This update fixes bugs reported from Beta v7.1 and touches up some cutscenes at the end of the beta that were previously placeholder.

Development Goes Well!

At the moment it's all clear skies and calm oceans for Soul Saga's remaining development, but there's still some distance to cover before the end.  Many aspects of development are wrapping up and will soon be in the polishing stages.  Since I am the only developer I am tasked with implementing all of the cutscenes.  So right now the cutscenes are taking up all of my time, but they are the last big piece to get done!  After I complete the cutscenes, it will be on to more gameplay implementation and then balancing. Usually cutscenes are done by a team, but since I'm alone it's hard to predict exactly how long it will take.  This is especially true since I am also the creative director and only writer on Soul Saga, so I take this time to make any last minute adjustments to the story and writing.  Once a cutscene is in, it's pretty much cemented, so I am kind of meticulous about combing over the story each scene to make sure it all flows well.  As a rough estimate, considering all of the other work I must do parallel to my current tasks, I predict the cutscenes to take me a few more months to complete.  After that there's some more work for me to do, and around that time I am hoping I can give a more solid estimate to Soul Saga's completion date. Since the cutscenes are the hardest and most time consuming part to implement, I will be focusing 99% of my time and energy on those until they are complete.  During this time the updates won't be as gigantic as they previously have been, but I will check in at least once a month with you to let you know how things are going. The only thing I want to see in my life is for you to enjoy Soul Saga, and I promise to keep pushing forward until it's as nice and polished as I can get it for you.

Music

In the meantime, here is some of Soul Saga's soundtrack for you to chew on in case you haven't had access to the beta yet.

Against The Odds (Soul Saga Boss Theme)

Against The Odds is the rocking boss battle theme created by Aivi (feat surasshu).  This theme is used for many of the difficult battles in Soul Saga.

Tranquil Shadows

Tranquil Shadows is the cave theme composed and performed by Ryan Camus.  This pretty theme is heard throughout Soul Saga's mysterious cavern areas to help bring beauty to the dark spaces.

So... what do you think?

I love to hear your thoughts, so please let me know what you think.  In particular, I'd like to know what kind of sneak peeks you're interested in seeing while I am working hard on the secret content of Soul Saga.  You can join us and drop a comment in this update's forum topic here: http://forums.disastercake.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=779
